The idea for this antenna design came into my mind when I was considering to install a WLAN router into a corner of a room. I thought that a WLAN coverage on the other side of the wall, where nobody lives, would have been a waste of power.
The antenna design was simulated in free space because 4NEC2 doesn't support simulating substrates, and I didn't have access to any better simulation software at that time. I then matched the design for the FR4 substrate manually and designed the PCB in EAGLE.
